Charitable giving in the United States rose slightly last year. According to published reports, the American people gave over $300 billion to charitable causes in 2012. In today’s econonmy, families are still grappling with the pressure to maintain budgets. Although Americans still give to charitable causes, it has become less a priority. Given this economic backdrop, Amelia Blackett, CEO of CCBM, Inc. a 501 (c) 3 organization that assists children in Liberia, recognizes the difficulty in asking for donations for her residential facility in Africa. ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland, talked with Amelia Blackett about her efforts to provide a safe environment, spiritual guidance, education and living skills for the twelve young ladies that occupy her residential facility.
