There are a bevy of harrowing stories of women surviving physical abuse by their husbands or significant other. The abuse also takes a more permanent turn when a victim of Domestic Violence is tragically killed. Early this week for instance, a Charlotte woman was found dead and dismembered in the back of her SUV. Police say the alleged perpetrator of the murder died of an apparent suicide. The nation recognizes Domestic Violence during the entire month of October. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, in conjunction with Safe Alliance and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office is sponsoring the “STEPS FOR CHANGE” Third Annual Domestic violence Awareness Walk/Run. ‘COMMUNITY VOICES’ host, Ron Holland talked with Peggy J. Caple, Domestic Violence Liaison & Reserve Police Officer of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and Khadija Wali-Uhud, CEO and founder of Jazzundaground International, about the ‘Steps for Change’ 5K Walk/Run and their efforts to stop Domestic Abuse.
