Former congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, Sandra

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. was transferred over the weekend from a federal prison in North Carolina to a minimum security facility in Alabama.

The disgraced former Congressman is due to be released at the end of next year but could get out earlier for good behavior. He is currently serving time for illegal use of $750,000 worth of campaign funds.

Jackson Jr. reportedly spent some time in solitary confinement during his tenure in N.C. A source told the Chicago Sun-Times that Jackson was advising other inmates about their rights in prison and a guard “took exception to that.”

When the 49-year-old is released his wife will begin her own 12-month stint behind bars. Sandi Jackson pleaded guilty last year to tax violations.

A judge ruled that the couple could serve their sentences at separate times out of consideration for their children.
