TBR — Richmond, VA — Jump Start University an affiliate of Vasilios Community Development Services recently hosted its inaugural event, “Essence of Empowerment.”
Held at the Virginia War Memorial, Richmond, VA this was a wonderful time for the Community to come together and see the dream of Carl S. Vaughan EdD become reality.
The evening entitled, Essence of Empowerment, “A night of Royal Empowerment” was informative as well as entertaining with guest speaker Roland Maseo Dean, a participant of the program, Guest flautist Michael Hawkins and a special auction orchestrated by Melba V. Lyons.
Dr. Vaughan says that the mission of JumpStart University (JSU) is to meet the dire and prevalent needs of members of the community by providing educational services and programs that move them towards homeownership, while at the same time, prevent broken families and homelessness.”
Specifically, JSU programs provide seminars, classes, counseling sessions and services in the following areas Behavior Modification, Education Programs & Job Training, Daily Living & Independent Living, Leadership & Mentorship Programs and Recovery Groups.
In the end Dr. Vaughan called the evening a success and thanked everyone who contributed to this event. “All attendees had a marvelous time. Much thanks to Hudson Catering for beautiful decor and delicious food, Michael Hawkins for providing entertainment, Sheilah Belle for hosting, and our committee members and staff for all of your time and effort in putting the event together,” says Dr. Vaughan.
Dr. Vaughan was also excited because every item in the silent auction was sold! The auction included items such as: a brand new set of pots and pans, tickets to a Richmond Flying Squirrels game, gifts card to G-Force Go-Karts, a weekend night’s stay at the Omni, and a dinner to Tobacco & Company!
This was truly a blessed event, that is making a big difference in the lives of many.
