Whether you are complacent or apathetic, both left unresolved can rob you of your best life. Reaching a place in life where things are status quo is great, except when you stop reaching beyond your current space in life and remaining open to what the Lord has in store for you.

Allowing ones self to become passively indifferent about life to include about people has the potential of stifling the quality of your life.

The world we live in at times feels like a ball of confusion making it easy to shut down and shut in protecting ourselves from disappointment, frustration and aggravation just to name a few.

2Timothy 4:3-4ESV, gives us a view of a negative outcome as the result of such thinking, “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”

Can you imagine where we would be if those living during the civil rights era would have fallen victim to complacency or apathy? I can only imagine the frustration that must have been a part of their day to day living! Yet, many of them strived for a better life, regardless of the pain, suffering and inconvenience. And so they stood firm, knowing that the Lord had promised and the country would have to take note that what had been could be no more.

We have an opportunity this November to pay tribute to those that have come before us fighting for many things with the right to vote being one of them.

Historically, voting during the midterm elections falls well below that that occurs during the general election. While I understand clearly the statistics, the good sense of the action has always frustrated and confused me.

In all elections there are people on the ballot that will have a vote over matters concerning you and those that you love and value in your life. Much has been accomplished along the journey of equality, however, there is still much on the line. Key issues like immigration, jobs, the economy, women’s rights, health care, social safety nets and protections, the rights of all people and much more.

Deuteronomy 1:13 ESV advises this way, “Choose for your tribes wise, understanding, and experienced men, and I will appoint them as your heads.”

Take advantage of your opportunity to learn more about those that are on the ballot and make an independent decision based on your life, who and what you want to support. Then, move beyond any complacency, apathy or just plain not choosing to participate, and vote. Our generations depend on it.
