This summer, Pastor Lance D. Watson, PhD, will take the ministry of the Saint Paul’s Baptist Church to a global stage as a keynote speaker at the 20th Baptist World Congress. Watson, a member of the Virginia Mission Board, was chosen to represent North America from 216 unions representing a community of more than 105 million Baptists worldwide.

Every five years, the Baptist World Congress is the largest gathering of Baptists of the world. Members gather for corporate worship, study, reflection and discussion on issues of concern. The 20th Baptist world Congress, themed “Hear the Spirit”, will take place in July 28- August 1 in Honolulu Hawaii.

Speakers who address the Congress are chosen to reflect the rich diversity of the worldwide Baptist family. Watson will join a stellar cast of Baptist leaders from around the world, all of whom will tackle difficult issues facing the religious community: human trafficking, the ethics of genetic engineering, and Christian/ Muslim relationships to name a few. As the closing keynote minister, Watson will speak to the Congress about dedication (I THINK WE NEED A LITTLE MORE HERE).

“I am deeply honored to be representing my country, my community and my church during this event” said Dr. Watson. “God has truly blessed our ministry. We just celebrated the 100 years anniversary of our church, our community based ministry has grown exponentially, and now we have been given the opportunity to share the positive power of Jesus Christ with the world. God is good!”

The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church exists to empower people to grow into the persons that God created them to be by celebrating God’s goodness in worship, connecting with each other in small groups, caring for each other and the world and contributing to the transformation of the world through gifts based ministry in the name of Christ.
