To the surprise of many, Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. has put his home in Washington, D.C., up for sale for a reported $2.5 million. He’s been on leave from Congress since June 10, while undergoing treatment for Bipolar II depression.

The Democratic congressman’s office released this statement:

“Like millions of Americans, Congressman Jackson and Mrs. Jackson are grappling with soaring health care costs and are selling their residence to help defray costs of their obligations.”
