Richmond, VA — In “Determined to Live: How I Endured 48 Surgeries Due to Gastric Bypass”, author Lynette Goode gives readers a raw account of her experience with obesity and the health complications she has dealt with because of it. She offers hope and encouragement to anyone going through any type of hardship, showing them that it is possible to persevere.

Goode opens up about the complications she endured as a result of simply not knowing proper nutrition and healthy life style habits from a young age. Goode does not just talk about obesity, though. She provides a personal journey through all her complications, including over 48 surgeries within the past 13 years, all stemming from the Gastric Bypass surgery. She is honest and raw about her story, revealing that she has overcome such obstacles as opiate addiction, depression and emotional challenges. She continues to deal with numerous physical complications.

An excerpt from “Determined to Live”:

“As I look over my life, I have been dealing with obstacles all my life. The Enemy has been trying kill me, even as a little girl when I took an overdose of my father’s sleeping pills. When you have so many obstacles in your life, there are two things you can do. You can have a positive attitude or a negative attitude. The positive attitude will help you to deal with the obstacles that you are facing. A negative attitude will make people not want to be around you, and it isolates you from family and friends.”

Goode hopes her story helps readers avoid enduring the complications and hardships she has lived through, and she believes avoiding these things begins with being aware of health issues. “Obesity is one of the main issues in society,” she says. “In life, you are your own best advocate in regards to your health, no one else.”
