The Kroger grocery store chain announced yesterday that is buying th Harris Teeter chain in a $2.5 billion deal. Harris Teeter will operate as a subsidiary of Kroger and will keep its management team at its Matthews, N.C., headquarters. Together, the two brands will operate 2,631 stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia and will have 368,300 employees. There are no plans to close stores.

Shortly following the announcement, Harris Teeter customers took to social media with concerns about everything from VIC cards, to double coupon days. Kroger’s CEO says to expect few changes as Harris Teeter will operate as a subsidiary of Kroger from its current headquarters.
