Mary Mary’s Top 10 music videos have set the bar for Gospel musicians the world over. They have always proven that they have the staying power and the strength in the Name of God to teach, reach and meet everyone where they are in their walk of life.

I was fortunate enough a few weeks ago to see them at their New York Showcase. You can read that story here Mary Mary Showcase In NYC: A Taste of “Something Big” [VIDEO]

In my opinion these are the Top 10 Mary Mary Videos of all time.

10 “Shackles (Praise You)- Of course you know this song. The chorus “Took the shackles off my feet so I can dance.” It was the first time many of us had the voices of two ladies who were encouraging us to get up and dance.

9 “Thank You”- The song inpires you to hold on just one more day. The lyrics “tragedies are commonplace/ All kinds of diseases, people are slipping away/ Economies down, people don’t get/ Enough pay/ But as for me all I can say is Thank you Lord for all you done for me” is enough to motivate you forward.

#8 “Heaven” The song in itself is a spry treatment to the end goal for us all. The video just makes you happy. The roller-skating and bike riding takes you back to the simpler times in your life. You are definitely caught in the happiness of the video while watching.

#7 “Yesterday“ If you have never seen this video, it will definitely change your mind about what a Gospel video is and what it isn’t. The story line leads you to a familiar but taboo subject.

#6 “Love Him Like I Do” Though this video is not really a Mary Mary video, it definitely a great video that reminds you of the powerful vocal range the ladies possess. It is also a reminder that you can praise from within any genre of music.

#5 “Get Up” The ladies bring the art of empowerment through dance to life. The shadows, colors and warmth of the video remind you of a Saturday afternoon.

#4“I Worship You” The video is a painting come to life. The visuals alone leaves you inspired.

#3“God in Me” Simply put it’s a video which fulfills you are always a representative on Earth wherever you are.

#2 “How I Got Over” The video just takes you to church. It just reminds you that these women are blessed with the Spirit.

#1 “Walking” The newest video by Mary Mary brings us to the meaning of what we do. That we are Faith in motion. It is the moving forward that keeps us inline with the will pf God.

Next week Mary Mary will release their sixth studio album that promises to be a smash hit. It is worth your time and effort to add it to your collection.

Religion has always been a major aspect of African-American life. Religion instills morals, discipline and optimism in its practitioners. We often credit our faith in God with our ability to overcome major life issues. Many people feel that their spirituality has greatly influenced their health and many doctors are in agreement, according to a study performed by researchers from the University of Chicago.

“The majority of U.S. doctors — 56 percent — believes that religion and spirituality influence patient’s health,” said lead author Dr. Farr A. Curlin, an assistant professor of medicine. “The influence mostly helps patients cope with illness and gives them a positive state of mind.” Most doctors feel, the more positive a patient’s attitude is towards beating a health problem, the easier it is for them to bring the patient back to good health.

The patient plays a major role in regaining their health. The doctor can only prescribe medicine and provide instructions. It is up to patient to act on these recommendations. Patients who are not motivated or have little faith in their ability to overcome their conditions are less likely to properly implement doctor recommended changes into their lives. Patients who maintain a strong belief in God often maintain a “God helps those who help themselves” attitude and are more likely to follow instructions and live within guidelines.

What it all boils down to is trust and faith. A patient must have trust in the knowledge and skills of their doctors and they must have faith in their ability to overcome or live with their health condition. A positive attitude and optimism are key to overcoming life’s obstacles — health related or not.

Her disease is probably quite advanced: her kidneys are failing and she is so weak she can barely walk. Leaving her young daughter with family, she rode a bus four hours to the hospital where her cousin Allen Bamurekye, born infected, both works and gets the drugs that keep her alive.

But there are no drugs for Ms. Kamukama. As is happening in other clinics in Kampala, all new patients go on a waiting list. A slot opens when a patient dies.

“So many people are being supported by America,” Ms. Kamukama, 28, says mournfully. “Can they not help me as well?”

The answer increasingly is no. Uganda is the first and most obvious example of how the war on global AIDS is falling apart.

The last decade has been what some doctors call a “golden window” for treatment. Drugs that once cost $12,000 a year fell to less than $100, and the world was willing to pay.

Among the many reverberations of President Obama’s election, here is one he probably never anticipated: at least 32 African-Americans are running for Congress this year as Republicans, the biggest surge since Reconstruction, according to party officials.

Among the many reverberations of President Obama’s election, here is one he probably never anticipated: at least 32 African-Americans are running for Congress this year as Republicans, the biggest surge since Reconstruction, according to party officials.

But now black Republicans are running across the country — from a largely white swath of beach communities in Florida to the suburbs of Phoenix, where an African-American candidate has raised more money than all but two of his nine (white) Republican competitors in the primary.

Party officials and the candidates themselves acknowledge that they still have uphill fights in both the primaries and the general elections, but they say that black Republicans are running with a confidence they have never had before. They credit the marriage of two factors: dissatisfaction with the Obama administration, and the proof, as provided by Mr. Obama, that blacks can get elected.

“I ran in 2008 and raised half a million dollars, and the state party didn’t support me and the national party didn’t support me,” said Allen West, who is running for Congress in Florida and is one of roughly five black candidates the party believes could win. “But we came back and we’re running and things are looking great.”
