Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief says it has deployed at least 80 volunteers to respond to severe weather in Oklahoma. The American Red Cross has several shelters open in Oklahoma and Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles have begun delivering hot meals throughout the affected areas. The Red Cross is also working to link loved ones in Moore who are OK through a website called Safe and Well. Text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, donate online, or donate by phone at 1-800-RED CROSS.

Slated to take place Sunday, May 26th at 10p.m. and hosted by Byron Cage and Sheilah Belle, The Belle, this ALL WHITE NIGHT concert, will be one for the books.

However this is just the beginning as Bishop Walker is getting ready to hit the road to support his new release, Hezekiah Walker Azusa The Next Generation.  The new release is set to hit store shelves on Tuesday, June 11th.  Special guests on the new project include Donald Lawrence, Pastor Donnie McClurkin, Pastor John P. Kee, Deitrick Haddon and Brian Courtney Wilson.

Houston, TX – It’s official. Grammy award winning Gospel songstress and winner of Season 3 of Sunday Best Le’Andria Johnson, is now a Pastor Le’Andria. Johnson is set to start her own church in Hapeville, GA.  According to Twitter and Facebook pages associated with the singer and licensed minister, Johnson’s new church, IPC Ministries (Imperfect People Changing The Game) move in date is set for Saturday, June 1, 2013 with the first service to be held on June 16.

According Leandria’s youtube page her ministry stands for ‘imperfect people changing the game’.

Mary Mary’s Tina and Erica Campbell are gracing the cover of Ebony June 2013 Issue.  Inside the magazine, Tina revealed shocking news about her marriage while sister Eric talks about her husband and his busy career. 

“How I forgave my husband after his affair,” appears below Tina’s photo on the magazine’s June cover, which features her standing alongside her sister Erica Campbell.

In one excerpt from the cover story, Tina — who is married to The Tonight Show Band drummer Teddy Campbell — tells Ebony, “Once I became aware [of the affair], I initially wanted to kill my husband… I was considering adjusting the will, the living trust and all that kind of stuff.  I did physically try to stab him.  Several times… I never got to the point of physical harm, not really, but my words… My words hurt.”

The news may come as quite a shock to Mary Mary fans, who often raved over Teddy and Tina’s relationship as it’s portrayed on the WE tv reality series Mary Mary.  The pair have been married since 2000.

Tina’s sister Erica also discusses her husband in Ebony’s June issue, which is dedicated to celebrating Black Music Month.  In the magazine, Erica reveals that her husband, record producer Warryn Campbell, has been “called to minister.”  She says, “Now I said, ‘Lord, when I first started dating this guy he worked for Death Row Records, but he was from the church.  That was a perfect combination for me: a little street, a little church.’”

Mary Mary also opens up about their decision to take a break from recording together, and Erica talks about her solo music project.  The June issue of Ebony arrives on newsstands this Tuesday.

His extensive acting credits include the Off-Broadway musical “The Rock and the Rabbi” and feature films like “The Sixth,” “Abandoned” (starring Brittany Murphy), “One Night with the King” (opposite Omar Sharif and Peter O’Toole) and “Preacher’s Kid” (with Clifton Powell and former Destiny’s Child member LaToya Luckett). JAVEN also served as a co-host on BET’s “Paula White Show” from 2001-2002.

“I’m excited about ‘Worship in the Now’ and what it means to those who are experiencing it,” said JAVEN. “I know as people begin to include worship more and more in their everyday lives, everything from depression to poverty, even sickness will begin to be removed from their lives. I was flipping through the TV channels last week and came across one of Spike Lee’s best movies, School Daze.  This was a 1988 film written and directed by Lee.  The movie took an inside look at some of the internal issues that go on within the Black community—issues like dark skinned Blacks versus light skinned Blacks; Blacks that have “good”  hair versus Blacks with “nappy” hair; Blacks from wealthy families versus Blacks from poor families.   The movie was funny and serious at the same time.  I always say that comedy is simply a funny way of being serious.

The movie’s setting takes place on the fictional Black college campus of Morehouse College.  Lee’s concept for the movie was based on his experiences he had as a student at School Daze, as well as his interactions with students from Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University.  Spelman and Morehouse are predominately occupied by children of the Black elite.  They are all located in Atlanta.

The movie received critical acclaim and was a financial success. But it created a firestorm because the elite Blacks did not take well to criticism of their disdain of Blacks who were not part of their clique—just ask Bill Cosby.

Though the school in the movie was named Mission College, it was actually shot on the campuses of Morehouse, Spelman and Clark Atlanta.  But, because of the movie’s portrayal of the Black bourgeoisie, Lee was forced to stop filming on those campuses and was barred from being invited to speak on their campuses after the movie was released.  He was forced to complete his filming at nearby Morris Brown College, a lesser known Black college that was not known to have many people from wealthy backgrounds.

Not much has changed in the 25 years since the release of School Daze.  As a matter of fact, one could argue that this schism within the Black community has gotten worse.

Tim and Tami West originally came up with idea for the bandages when their granddaughter was diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile diabetes. “When our four-year-old granddaughter was diagnosed, she had to be stuck with a needle four times a day,” says Tim. “One weekend when she was staying with us, I was watching Tami put a Scooby Doo bandage on her and it occurred to me — why are we putting something so trivial on something so serious? We had been praying with her for healing and I thought, what if we put a bandage on her that has a healing scripture on it? It would be a simple way to help teach her about God and the Bible.”
