Tyler Perry’s House of Payne actress and gospel recording artist Tamela Mann is not just pulling from other gospel singers and R&B greats like Stevie Wonder when it comes to her next album. According to Mann, American Idol winner Carrie Underwood has been an inspiration as well.
“I kind of listen to everything. Like Stevie Wonder, country, I really like Carrie Underwood. I really listen to a lot of gospel; that’s kind of my base. So it’s really a variety of people because I think all genres of music; we’re all trying to make a statement in different ways,” Mann said in a recent interview. “I really listen to lyrics of songs; that’s what kind of pulls me in.”
Fresh off “The Master Plan,” Mann says her next effort will have a mix of both new and old musical elements.
“My last project I ended with some hymns, something familiar. Even though you have new music you have something familiar. That’s the kind of base I wanted to stick with, with my new album,” Mann told AC. “Even though you have new things, you have something new and something old. You make it a big gumbo where you have everything on there. Something to fill in the blanks sometimes when you don’t have the answers.”
In related news, Jonathan Nelson is gearing up for the release of his next album, “Better Days’.
Announcing the effort via Twitter this week, Nelson wrote “BETTER DAYS in stores Sept 14, 2010 – Expect the Great is the nu single impacting radio now…I need my tweeps to support it…RT ..LETS GO!”
