There was a time in our society when it was not uncommon to ask a neighbor to borrow a cup of sugar. Of course times have changed and the thought of something like that may sound bizarre depending on what generation you are in. What is most important in that example is the simple act of sharing?

Sharing of our time, our talent, our finances and even our opinion is not only beneficial for whom you are sharing, but the act of sharing can have far reaching positive impact.

Think of a time when someone has shared unselfishly with you. It doesn’t matter what was shared, just how beneficial the action was.

We absolutely must take care of ourselves by looking out for our own best interest and that of those we love and care about; but being open to opportunities where we can be helpful to others is fruitful as well. Not only does it feel great to receive, but also to give.

Philippians 2:4 tells us “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”

Each one of us is in possession of the greatness of our own experiences. Our lessons, positive and negative are available to us for sharing. Doing so can create a legacy that is greater than our solo venture.

Each week begin your days with openness toward discovering where you can make a difference in someone else’s life. Is there a committee that you can volunteer for that has been waiting for someone with your talents? Will there be a co-worker that has been trying to solve a problem that you can help with? Or is there someone that is standing in the need of encouragement and perhaps you have some experience with what they are going through and the sharing of your survival can help them hold on just a little longer.

I challenge you to make your day count! Start each day, open to the possibilities of sharing.
