James Avery, who was most famously known as Uncle Phil on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” has died.
Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Uncle Phil’s son, Carlton on the show, confirmed the news via his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.
Avery, who was born in Atlantic City, N.J., played alongside Will Smith as his lawyer uncle, later turned judge on the hit 90s sitcom. Ranked as #34 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Dads of all time, Avery’s work also includes doing voice overs for such films as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, in which he was the original “Shredder” as well as the War Machine in the animated “Iron Man” series.
No word on the cause of death.
