Communities across the country continue to grapple with gang violence. Whether it’s large metropolitan cities like Chicago or small communities like Asbury Park, New Jersey, gun and gang violence beleaguer communities of all sizes. The City of Charlotte also wrestles with gangs and gun violence. There are over 100 gangs in the Queen City and surrounding areas. All too often combating gang violence is stymied by lack of resources, a beleagured police department; prison overcrowding and politicians that straddle between sociological perspectives and political expediency. Innovative programs to reduce gang violence are plentiful, yet the problem persists.
