Over 40 cities joined in on celebrations memorializing Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old police brutality victim from Cleveland, OH this weekend.

Twitter users from all over the country are tweeting with the #yearwithoutTamir hashtag demanding justice and ideals of racial equality that are championed in the Black Lives Matter movement. Rice was killed a year ago on November 22, 2014 by 26-year-old Officer Timothy Loehmann.

In theme with the events, Ferguson, MO residents held a vigil as well, as the city has become infamous for its police injustice after the murder of Michael Brown and the disproportionate incarceration of its Black, lower income citizens.

Supporters in Cleveland gathered outside the Cudell Rec Center to recognize the young boy’s untimely death with Rice’s family. A march is being held today in town to call for the removal of Prosecutor Tim McGinty from the case.

The Rice family isn’t the only family to lose a child to racialized violence just days before Thanksgiving. Exactly three years ago today, 17-year-old Black teen Jordan Davis was fatally shot by Michael Dunn, a middle-aged White man at a Florida gas station. Dunn killed Davis within minutes of the teen pulling into the station with his three friends; Dunn began arguing with Davis over the loud rap music playing from the teens’ car.

Dunn is one of the few people to have been served justice for killing an innocent, unarmed African American sheerly out racial intolerance and bias against Black male youths. He is now serving life without parole and has since apologized to Davis’ family for the crime.

Tonight on the third anniversary of Davis’ death, HBO is airing 3 1/2 Minutes, 10 Bullets, a documentary chronicling the details of Davis’ case at 9 pm ET. See the trailer for the film below:
