Five years ago, a 30-something year old pastor flew to Nashville, TN for the Stellar Awards Weekend to hand out free download cards to promote his first radio single, ‘Awesome!’
This year, that same pastor, Pastor Charles Jenkins, turned multi-award winning songwriting artist, shows no signs of slowing down, receiving his 17th Stellar Award nomination for his third #1 album, which launched his fourth Billboard Top 10 single, “Winning!”
His indie record label, Inspired People, has been listed in Billboard Magazine’s Top 10 gospel labels end-of-the-year chart since its inception in 2012.
This year, Inspired People Music, is set to release it’s newest artist, Donishisa Ballard, this Spring with the foot-stomping radio single, “Stretch Out!”
For over 16 years, Jenkins has been the senior pastor of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church (also known as Fellowship Chicago), which was founded by civil rights pioneer and gospel music icon, Rev. Clay Evans, who retired in 2000 after pastoring for 50 years and recording 25 albums. Rev.
