GOVERNOR MCAULIFFE GRANTS RIGHTS OF 206,000 FELONS

Secretary of the Commonwealth Kelly Thomasson and Miss Community Clovia talk up returning citizens, second chances and resources.

 

So far, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe has granted the rights of over 161,000 returning citizens. That’s the right to vote, serve on a jury, run for public office and become a notary public.  Apply for restoration of rights here.

On Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m., Governor Terry McAuliffe will host a Re-entry Resource Fair in partnership with Goodwill. The event will kick off with remarks from Governor McAuliffe, followed by a resource fair and workshops to assist returning citizens in applying for jobs and preparing for work. Resource Fair attendees will be placed in small groups and will have the opportunity to work directly with trained Goodwill staff on interviewing and Talking About Your conviction; Preparing for Your First Day (What to Wear); and Applying for the Job (Where to Look; paper vs online applications). Additionally, several state and local agencies will be represented including 211, Fan Free Clinic, Virginia Department of Health, Job Corps, Salvation Army, DMV Connect, and others.
