Who will be elected Virginia’s 73rd governor? Virginians will decide at the stroke of a vote on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 and the top contenders are democratic candidate Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam  and republican candidate Ed Gillespie

What is the role of governor? The governor is the head of the executive branch of Virginia‘s government and the commander-in-chief of the state’s military forces. The governor has the duty to enforce state laws, and the power to either approve or veto bills passed by the Virginia General Assembly, to convene the legislature, and to grant pardons, except in cases of impeachment.

Register to vote, check or update your voter status at the Virginia Department of Elections. Virginia’s general election is Tuesday, November 7, 2017. The polls are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
