Esau said to his father, “Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud. Gen. 27:38, NIV

Have you ever been in a place where it seemed like everyone else was receiving blessings except for you? Everyone around you has a new job or a promotion, but you feel like you’re still stuck in a rut. All your friends are getting married and you’re the only one that’s still single. All your old classmates have positive changes to celebrate, but things are still the same for you as they were at the last reunion. Like Esau in this Scripture, we cry out as if God has given away all of His bountiful blessings to others, leaving us behind. Esau was cheated out of his birthright and his blessing, and wept when his father Isaac told him that nothing could be done. Yet, in the midst of losing what could have been his, Esau was still blessed by God. Although he didn’t get the birthright blessing he anticipated, six chapters later we find Esau living in abundance of possessions, wives, children, and even forgiveness and compassion for his brother.

When you are tempted to believe that God has given away all of His blessings to others, remember that God always has enough stored up just for you. Even if it is not the part of the promise you anticipated, God always has an inheritance that enables you to live in the fullness of all that God has promised for you, His precious child. While the delay may sometimes feel like denial, God truly does have a special promise just for us that can never be given to someone else. As we wait on Him, we will find peace in knowing that our abundant God will never run out of blessings for His children! His blessings often come in the most unexpected ways and at a time of God’s choosing, not ours.

God, in a world that focuses constantly on what we lack, I am tempted to forget that you operate with an abundance of love, provision, and wisdom. Thank you for the abundance of mercy you show, grace you supply, love you shower, and peace you give. Thank you for being the Parent that never runs out of love and blessings to shower on each one of your children. I pray now that you will cover me with your grace and help me to wait on you. Keep on pouring out your blessings on others and I thank you in advance for the blessings you have in store just for me. In Jesus Name, AMEN.
