Greyhound has started an upscale bus service from Richmond to New York. The new buses on the Greyhound express service include more comfortable seats and Wi-Fi, the company says.

Greyhound Express buses run between Richmond and Newark, N.J., and New York City, with at least three direct round trips daily. Richmond service began Tuesday.

Nonrefundable one-way tickets online begin at $1 and go as high as $45, according to company website.

Ticket prices increase as demand for a particular schedule rises, according to Greyhound spokesman Timothy Stokes.

The service competes with Megabus’ East Coast express service, which began serving Richmond in December.

Both Megabus and Greyhound Express feature free Wi-Fi, leather seats, extra legroom and power outlets.

Greyhound Express started operations in December and now also serves Washington; Philadelphia; Baltimore; Silver Spring, Md.; Boston; Pittsburgh; Chicago; Milwaukee; Madison, Wis.; Minneapolis; Indianapolis; Lafayette, Ind.; Cincinnati; Champaign, Ill.; and St. Louis.
