Go Kart driving is so much fun! Racing around a track, passing other drivers with the wind hitting my face is so exciting. When I have the chance to hit the track, I leave all my cares behind and just focus on zipping as fast as I can around and around until the whistle goes off and the flag goes up.

Recently, I was on the track with some friends. It had been a pretty tough week for all of us and we just wanted to laugh and have a great time. As the whistle sounded, we revved up the engines and took off around the track attempting to pass each other while talking trash as we got close enough to hear each other. Suddenly I realized that I was the only one going around the track. I looked around and the attendant had now resorted to waving a flag feverishly to tell me to stop immediately. I never heard the whistle or noticed that others were going in for a landing. I totally missed the queue.

That night I was thinking about how easy it was for me to miss the queue at a track that I had frequented many times before. The truth is, I was not listening, nor was I paying attention.

A go kart track is pretty harmless and besides the brief embarrassment and ribbing from my friends, nothing else was at stake.

When I compare that kind of miss to life events where I have missed a queue, the results have been more devastating. The calamity either occurs because I missed an important queue, or I choose to ignore them, justifying why or why not something happened.
