Grand Rapids, MI – Award winning gospel singer Marvin L. Sapp has joined the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s board of directors.

Sapp, president and cofounder of Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology, the first performance arts and technology middle/high school in West Michigan, is one of five newcomers elected to join the Civic Theatre’s board at its recent annual meeting.

Gwendolyn Jackson, Jeremiah Kossen, Jeremy Kress and Kate Wiltzer join Sapp to bring their outside experiences in business, education and other organizations throughout West Michigan to the GRCT Board

It’s been an eventful summer for Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, one of the largest community theater companies in the United States.

Longtime managing director Paul Dreher, who retired in 1999 after 39 years with GRCT, died in June after a short illness

Associate director and education director Penelope Notter has honored by the American Association of Community Theatre with an AACT Fellow Award in June.

Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s 2013 season will include such productions as “Legally Blonde,” “The Christmas Carol” and “Fiddler on the Roof” to Grand Rapids.

Sapp, honored as Artist of the Year at the 2013 Stellar Awards in January and a frequent Grammy Award-nominee, is minister at Lighthouse Full Life Center Church at Kingdom Square, a ministry he shared with his late wife MaLinda Sapp, who died in 2010 of complications from colon cancer.

Jackson is on the Continuous Improvement team at Meijer, Inc. and has been with the company for almost four years. She also is the current Theatre Booster President at Forest Hills Eastern High School.

Kossen is the Vice President of Operations at Lake Michigan Credit Union. In addition, Kossen has been volunteering with the GRPS Schools of Hope reading program the past five years and is a board member for Caledonia Education Foundation.

Kress is the Branding and Creative Director at Celebration! Cinema and has been recognized for his work by The Hollywood Reporter, Box Office Magazine and many industry organizations. Kress is one of the founding members of the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre J-Board.

Wiltzer, joined the Mindscape at Hanon McKendry team after almost five years in marketing and communications with Experience Grand Rapids. Her innovative thinking has helped her become an expert with podcasts, vlogging, blogging, storytelling and content creation.

In addition, the board elected new executive officers including: Bill Scarbrough, with Bodman PLC was elected president; Chuck Burpee, with Warner Norcross & Judd LL, was elected president-elect; Chuck Smeester, with William-Charles Search Group, was elected vice president; Peggy Murphy, with Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter, PC was elected treasurer; and Matt Vicari, with Miller-Johnson was elected secretary.
