Vernon J. Harris East End Community Health Center (VJHCHC) was founded in March 1999 as a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Vernon J. Harris, a pioneer in the area of public health. Our dedication to provide quality health care to each individual who enters our doors regardless of socio-economic status, has allowed us to grow throughout the year. With the establishment of clinical sites in various sections of the city over the past thirteen years, the organization has built a network of comprehensive primary care and support services for Richmond residents. As a result, the Capital Area Health Network (CAHN) was formed as the parent corporate entity with the VJHCHC site continuing to serve the East End/Church Hill community.

Today, Capital Area Health Network represents an innovative vision for primary health care and patient access in the City of Richmond for the New Millennium. The Network has a proud and rich history steeped in the communities served throughout Richmond. From our humble beginnings as Vernon J. Harris East End Community Health Center, located in historic Church Hill of Richmond, we have grown to include 6 sites and 1 school-based mobile unit. Our growth honors Dr. Vernon J. Harris, for whom the flagship site is named. Dr. Harris’ commitment to serve the underserved during times of economic distress is still being lived through the services we provide our patients.
