The Bible assures us that we can always go to the Lord in prayer. 1John 5:14 says “No matter what it is we ask according to God’s will, He hears us.” Psalm 62:8 goes on to say “Before God, pour out your heart.”
What a blessing and a gift to have the assurance that we can go to the Lord in prayer expecting an answer.
How often has someone asked for your prayers? If your experience is like mine, often. Recently during my daily bible reading, Matthew 5:33 jumped off the page underlining the importance of such a request. Prayer can change a situation. There are times that we may not even know the entire circumstance, but the Lord does, we just need to pray.
The Message Bible Matthew 5:33-37 illuminates the importance of not allowing our agreement to pray when asked to become an “empty promise.” “I’ll pray for you, and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you.’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious it becomes less true.”
Studying the Word can often bring about pause, forcing us to inventory our own lives. The above-referenced scripture reiterates the importance of being committed when we agree to pray on someone else’s behalf, above all the hustle and bustle that can go on, to make a prayer request a priority. If not, don’t agree to pray.
