TBR — Virginia Beach, VA – The Virginia Aires recently celebrated their 35th Anniversary at the Rock Church, 580 Kempsville Rd., Virginia Beach, VA. With just about every seat filled, along with several hundred standing against the walls in the rear hoping to get a glimpse of this amazing line up, this was one unforgettable concert.

Special guests included the Harmonizing Echoes, Tammy Edwards, Maurice Yancey & One Accord, Earl Bynum & The Mount Unity Choir, Doc McKenzie, Tasha Cobbs, Lee Williams, the First Lady of Gospel, Evg. Shirley Caesar and the Virginia Aires.

From the opening prayer to the last note shouted out by Evg. Shirley Caesar, this concert screamed energy, anointing and a desire to simply worship the Lord!

Tammy Edwards also got everyone going from the time they came on stage, as they took the mic and immediately kicked off their shoes. With tight harmony and moves similar to back in the day as Tina Turner, these ladies truly worshiped God in their own way.

Crowd at the Rock

Maurice Yancey & One Accord delivered a smooth harmonic sound to match their perfect pitch while Minister Earl Bynum and the Mt. Unity Choir delivered a combination of Praise & Worship and a few James Cleveland classics that brought the crowd to their feet.

The guests of honor the Virginia Aires delivered a twenty minute set filled with all of their fan favorites and radio hits. With energy to boot and a strong connection with the crowd, they gave everyone exactly what they wanted, as the crowd continued to inch closer and closer taking pictures and selfies near the stage.

Doc McKenzie simply turned it out, when his group started singing the song Jesus. As he walked down the steps from the concert stage and started walking up and down the aisles, the crowd met him along with way taking pictures and singing every note along with him. He even got so excited that he started to walk on the handles of the church chairs with a body guard supporting him every step of the way, and finally catching him as he fell limp hitting one of his high notes. The crowd went wild with applause and screams of joy.

Tasha Cobbs was also simply powerful in her performance as she ministered to the crowd and performed many of her hit songs including Break Every Chain.

Performing last was Evg. Shirley Caesar who was beyond powerful. She immediately connected with the crowd, and also shared the mic with them, offering various ones a chance to sing a portion of a song with her. If they did well, she would let them sing about a minute, and if they didn’t, she would quickly take the mic back. She was entertaining, transparent and met everyone where they were in ministry.

It was truly a blessed time to be at The Rock!

Guest emcees included Doc Christian, Donald Eason, Asia Symore and Sheilah Belle “The Belle”.

Congratulations to the Virginia Aires on 35 years of still being together as a group!

Job well done gentlemen!
