We know lifting weights builds muscle, but the process takes time. If you’re like me, you might sneak a look in the mirror after a workout hoping for instant results—only to see nothing yet. Building muscle, like personal growth, requires patience and consistent effort.

When lifting weights, you’re actually tearing the muscle down so it can rebuild stronger. The same principle applies to life. Sometimes, we must endure discomfort or criticism to grow and become better. It might not feel good in the moment, but it’s necessary for transformation.
Think about situations where you’ve faced feedback—whether at work, church, or even in personal relationships. That input may sting, but could it be an opportunity to improve? Critique isn’t always an attack. It might be someone offering a fresh perspective or sharing wisdom to help you reach the next level.

I’ve learned this firsthand. My team helped shape projects like Laugh, Cry, Heal by bringing ideas I hadn’t considered. Collaboration made the final product stronger than anything I could’ve created on my own. Similarly, in life, being open to others’ input can lead to breakthroughs we might not achieve alone.
Here’s the key: don’t let correction offend or discourage you. Instead, let it refine you. Think of feedback as a chance to evaluate what went wrong, make a plan, and come back stronger. It’s not about tearing you down to hurt you—it’s about building you up to be better.

Everyone won’t see things your way, and that’s okay. Not everyone who critiques you is a hater. Growth happens when we’re willing to listen and adapt. But you have to be open to the process.
So, take a deep breath the next time you hear something that challenges you. Whether it’s a tough review or a suggestion for improvement, see it as an opportunity. Remember, the tearing down is temporary, but the building back up makes you stronger than before.
That’s my “Erica-ism” for today. Embrace the feedback, do the work, and walk confidently into your next victory. Growth isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. Stay encouraged, y’all. Let’s keep growing together!
