Gospel artist and podcaster Corey Montell Scott joined Erica Campbell and Mr. Griff on Get Up Mornings to talk about his inspiring music journey, his new single “Makes My Day” featuring Kim Burrell, and what’s next in his growing career. The conversation started with Corey introducing his feel-good track “Makes My Day,” a bright and uplifting song that’s already connecting with listeners. “This is my real life,” Corey said about the music. “I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. I’m the only one in my family who sings, writes, and plays instruments—but when God gave it to me, He gave it to me for real.”

One of the most talked-about parts of the new single is the feature from gospel powerhouse Kim Burrell. Corey shared that Kim has been in his circle for over a decade and was one of the first to truly believe in him. “Before anybody in my hometown gave me a shot, Kim did,” he said. “She championed me before it was popular to do so.” Their collaboration is not just musical—it’s rooted in respect and years of support.

In addition to his music, Corey also hosts The True Friend Podcast, a space where he interviews gospel legends and faith leaders like Vickie Winans, Tamela Mann, and Dr. Juanita Bynum. The podcast was born out of leftover interviews from his time working in radio, which he repurposed into something meaningful. “I’m a memoir reader—I like getting in people’s business,” he joked. “But it’s really about hearing people’s stories and blessing others with them.”

Looking ahead, Corey is working on a new album titled My Diary of Grace. He described it as a refreshing, feel-good project full of authenticity. “The lyrics are God-based, but the sound is a reflection of how I grew up. My mom was 50% saved, 50% unsaved,” he said with a laugh. “So half the year, we’d be listening to Luther Vandross and Patti LaBelle, and the other half, it was Shirley Caesar and Kirk Franklin.”
