2026 Andrew Shannon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. PARADE
Newport News, Virginia. – The Andrew Shannon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. PARADE, FEEDING 5000 ™ and Concert honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held on Sunday, January 18th, 2026 in Newport News, Virginia. Dr. Willard G. Maxwell Jr., Pastor of New Beech Grove Baptist Church will serve as the Keynote Speaker. This is the kick off to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. The event is a collaborative effort of individuals, businesses, and organizations whose work reflects the values exemplified by Dr. King.
All events are Free and Open to the public.
For The People MOS Inc. invites the public to join us for these Commemorative events honoring Dr. MLK Jr. , which are all free and open to the public. The “Andrew Shannon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, FEEDING 5000 ™ and Concert” will include Elected officials, business and community members, all will join in solidarity to honor slain civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a Parade, Andrew Shannon FEEDING 5000 and Gospel Music Celebration leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Andrew Shannon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, Andrew Shannon FEEDING 5000 and Gospel Music Celebration are signature events held annually in January, leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. For The People MOS Inc. in partnership with New Beech Grove Baptist Church, Dr. Willard Maxwell Jr., Pastor and Host, and the City of Newport News are proud to present these Annual Commemorative events honoring Dr. MLK Jr.
The national holiday is Monday, January 19th, 2026. It was first observed in 1986, fifteen years after Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination on April 4, 1968, and celebrates the life and legacy of the renowned civil rights leader.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade — Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Parade will begin at the Newport News Police Department North Precinct and Training Center parking lot 13785 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News (Behind Popeyes Chicken and BP Gas Station) and will proceed to New Beech Grove Baptist Church, 361 Beechmont Drive, Newport News, Virginia
Andrew Shannon Feeding 5000 — Sunday, Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
Will take place immediately following the parade at New Beech Grove Baptist Church, 361 Beechmont Drive, Newport News, Virginia. Pre-packaged meals will be distributed to individuals and families who attend the event, which will provide essential nourishment of food. The event will also include the distribution of non-perishable food items to take to the homes of the elderly, disabled and families facing food insecurities, transportation barriers, and who are feeling the strain of rising food costs and limited resources.
Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert — Sunday, Jan. 18 at 4 p.m.
The Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held in the New Beech Grove Baptist Church Sanctuary. Featuring Maurice Yancey and One Accord in Concert and Special Guests New Beech Grove Baptist Church Praise Team and Pentecostal Followers of Christ Church Choir. Keynote Speaker – Dr. Willard G. Maxwell, Jr., Pastor – New Beech Grove Baptist Church. Minister Jonathan Waldon will serve as Co-Host.
