The ACLU of Virginia has stated that it will file a federal law suit to challenge the gay marriage ban in Virginia.
They plan to team up with the gay rights group Lambda Legal to argue that Virginia’s ban violates the constitutional guarantee of protection under the law.
In 2006, voters in Virginia approved a constitutional amendment that prohibited same-sex marriages and refused to recognize such marriages performed in other states.
This announcement comes after the Supreme Court repealed the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8.
