The 2014 Virginia General Assembly is in session with one week down and seven more weeks to go. Over 900 bills have been introduced by members in the House and Senate. Bills have been introduced from minority procurement, medicaid expansion to the reform of the Standards of Learning (SOL’S).

The Senate Committee on Education and Health passed SB236 underlining the rights of students to pray and take part in religious activities on school property is moving forward. The bill introduced by Senator Bill Carrico (R-Grayson, (codifies right to religious viewpoint expression) passed by a 7 to 6 vote. The passage came despite legal concerns by representatives of the ACLU and the Virginia School Boards Association.
