On Monday, Eastern District of Virginia Federal Judge tosses out one of nine convictions against former Virginia first lady Maureen McDonnell. Judge James R. Spencer yestered declined requests to grant an acquittal or a new trial to McDonnell and her husband, former Governor Bob McDonnell, on corruption charges. However, Judge Spencer did dismiss an obstruction of justice count against the former first lady.  A federal jury convicted the governor on 11 of 13 charges and Maureen McDonnell on nine of 13 charges. Lawyers for the McDonnells say the jury in the case may have been biased and acted improperly.

Bob McDonnell faces up to 30 years in prison when sentenced in January of 2015. Maureen McDonnell will be sentenced in February of 2015.
