Delegate Joseph D. Morrissey will announce during a news conference today his future with the state legislature following his recent misdemeanor conviction and jail sentence. Morrissey represents (district 74) covering parts of Richmond and Henrico County in the Virginia General Assembly. Morrissey is now serving a 6-month jail term for entering an Alford plea on charges of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The teen worked at his law office in Highland Springs. Morrissey reported to Henrico County Jail-East last week.

Will Delegate Morrissey resign or retain his House of Delegates seat? If he stays in office, critics have suggested the House of Delegate might censure or expel him. Governor Terry McAuliffe and several members in the Virginia Senate and House are calling for Morrissey’s resignation.

Sheriff Michael Wade says Delegate Morrissey gets no special treatment. Morrissey wears an ankle bracelet tracking device and is allowed to drive his personal vehicle to and from his House of Delegates office at the General Assembly building downtown Richmond. Morrissey will spend his nights in jail over the course of 6-months.
