Alice Barker is 102 years old and she used to be a dancer in the chorus line in the 30s and 40s. She would dance on stages with greats like Frank Sinatra and up until now, she believed that all the footage of those performances had been lost. Thanks to the amazing David Shuff and the help of Jazz on Film’s Mark Cantor, Barker was finally able to see herself dancing as a young woman for the first time. Can we just all collectively say, “Awww!”

Shuff owns a therapy dog and he would visit Barker at her nursing home in Brooklyn, New York when the dog was just a puppy. Someone who works at the nursing home tried to find Barker’s videos, but had no luck, so Shuff stepped in, tapped Cantor–who happened to have a stockpile of the earliest music videos ever made (soundies). And guess what? Cantor had some of Barker’s videos! OMG!

Shuff shared the videos with the nursing home. Many of the people there knew that Barker had been a dancer, but now everyone could see! When asked how she felt seeing herself, Barker said, “Making me wish I could get out of this bed and do it all over again.”

Shuff originally posted Barker’s story on Reddit and told the followers of the amazing story that he left the videos with her so she could watch anytime she wanted. Barker’s a regular rock star at her rest home these days! Mashable shared Barker’s nursing home information for all her fans to send her some loving mail. We’re totally going to send her something! We might even go see her!
