Two city marshals who allegedly opened fire on a vehicle they were pursuing, fatally wounding a 6-year-old child, have been charged, ABC News reports.

The officers — 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr. and 32-year-old Derrick Stafford — were charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in the Tuesday shooting that made Jeremy Mardis the youngest person to be killed by law enforcement this year.

Jeremy’s father, Chris Few, was critically injured in the shooting.

According to ABC:

“That little boy was buckled in the front seat of that vehicle and that is how he died,”  Col. Mike Edmonson said Friday.

Edmonson called body cam footage showing the shooting “the most disturbing thing I’ve seen.” The video will likely not be released until the officers’ trials, Louisiana State Police said Saturday.

Police also reviewed 911 calls and eyewitness interviews related to the shooting.

“Nothing is more important than this badge that we are wearing on our uniform,” Edmonson said. “This badge has been tarnished by the following two individuals.”

Police announced this week that Few was unarmed during the shooting. Few’s father, Morris German, told the Associated Press Jeremy was a “delightful” child who “loved everything, everybody.” Jeremy, German said, was also diagnosed with autism.

Details surrounding the shooting are slow to come in and authorities are still investigating what prompted the pursuit and use of force.

A funeral for the young child has been scheduled for Monday.
