The deadline to submit signatures and file for the Virginia primary is Thursday, December 10th. The Presidential Primary is Tuesday, March 1, 2016 and the voter registration deadline is Monday, February 8, 2016.

Note, individuals turning 18-years old by November 8, 2016 are eligible to register to vote now.

The Virginia Presidential Primary is Tuesday, March 1, 2016, known as ‘Fat Tuesday’. What GOP candidates are on the ballot? So far, Donald Trump, John Kasich, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz and others have submitted 200 signatures from each congressional district in the state and 5,000 signatures statewide.

GOP candidate Ben Carson has submitted 14,000 signatures to the Republican Party of Virginia. All of Carson’s signatures have been approved which means he will be on the primary ballot in March of 2016.

The race for president is definitely getting heated for 2016. In 2012, there were only two Republican candidates to qualify for the Virginia presidential primary ballot.

Democratic presidential candidate frontrunner, former First Lady of the United States of America, former Senator Hillary Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton submitted petitions to the state’s board of elections before the Thursday deadline. Clinton’s top competitor for the democratic nomination, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, submitted petitions last Friday. Former Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley has yet to submit petitions to the board of elections.
