Actor David Oyelowo is  pleading for calmer heads and  deeper discussions over The Academy Awards perceived snubs of Will Smith and ‘Staight Outta Compton.

This year actors and actresses have been very upset over the lack of diversity for this year’s Academy Awards. Jada Pinkett and Spike Lee have urged a boycott of the ceremony and surrounding events. It has caused  the spirit  of anger, disappointment and rejection to overshadow the event.

Last year  David was overlooked for playing Martin Luther King Jr. in the biggest film of the year  Selma when the Oscar nominations were announced.  Monday night h broke off his prepared remarks to blast the Academy at a gala honoring Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs Monday night.

He told a room unapologetically but respectfully the following:

A year ago, I did a film called Selma, and after the Academy Awards, Cheryl invited me to her office to talk about what went wrong then. We had a deep and meaningful [conversation]. For 20 opportunities to celebrate actors of color, actresses of color, to be missed last year is one thing; for that to happen again this year is unforgivable. We cannot afford to get bitter, we cannot afford to get negative. But we must make our voice heard.

He followed it the above statement by urging the room to pray for resolution and pray fervently for change.

What do you think?
