Cam Newton won 48 out of 50 votes to win the NFL’s most prestigious award. Newton who has faced a sea of criticism for his oversized personalities, is the first Panther to ever win the award. Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer and New England quarterback Tom Brady, neither of whom are playing the Super Bowl, each received one vote.
In accepting award the Charlotte Observer reported that Newton said “Without the fans there wouldn’t be no me. Thank you for supporting me in an unwavering way for so much of my career,” said Newton in a taped message at the NFL Honors ceremony since he couldn’t be at the awards show the night before Super Bowl 50.
Coach Ron Rivera won his second Coach of the Year Award.
