Miss Community's I Am Community Report

Always keeping an eye on the Virginia General Assembly. Have you checked on the lawmakers in the House of Delegates and Senate lately? Hundreds of bills have passed in both the House and Senate. The question is what percentage of those bills will be signed into law. The 2016 session is expected to end this week.

I am highlighting a particular bill this morning known as the Execution bill (HB815). The Virginia Senate has voted on and given the okay to use the electric chair when lethal-injection drugs are not available for executing prisoners. The House of Delegates has already passed a similar measure but needs to act again because the Senate version includes some amendments. Governor Terry McAuliffe has not said whether he will sign the bill if it reached his desk. New laws will go into effect on July 1, 2016.

What are your thoughts on the electric chair use bill? I believe that all persons found guilty of a crime did not do it. That’s just my two-cents. Clovia “Miss Community” Lawrence
