RICHMOND CITY COUNCIL COMPROMISES ON SCHOOL FUNDING

Source: RICHMOND PUBLIC SCHOOLS / RICHMOND PUBLIC SCHOOLS

To close or not close several Richmond Public Schools that is the question…

Richmond City Council has settled on a compromise to give Richmond Public Schools an additional nine-point-five million dollars in the city’s budget. This is a little more than the school system was expecting to receive. Richmond School Superintendent Dr. Dana T. Bedden says the new revenue may help improve teacher pay, which he says is his number one priority. Will the additional funding close the school system’s budget gap? It is not clear if the funds will prevent the school system from closing Armstrong High School and four elementary schools.
