Social Security Reform Becomes A Divisive Issue

Where are the Social Security checks? The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) is asking this very question to the Office of the Inspector General. SSA wants an investigation into what happened to social security checks for three-hundred people that were sent to a Richmond business that abruptly closed at the end of last week. Crossroads, Incorporated is a representative payee for social security, which means the feds send social security checks there to manage for people with intellectual disabilities who can’t handle their own finances. SSA spokesman Dan O’Connor says the agency closed the bank account where the social security money was deposited so no future checks go to Crossroads, Inc. Connor says people who used the Crossroads and are due a July check should go to the Social Security Office in Richmond on Friday.
