Beware!

Larry Haake is the General Registrar for Chesterfield and is warning residents who are eligible to register to vote to be careful. Haake wants all residents to be on alert to fraudulent voter registration schemes by “individuals with ulterior motives who present themselves as part of a voter registration drive.” Haake says if you need to register to vote it can be done safely online through the Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) or DMV offices. Just because an unknown person is sitting at a table with a voter registration sign giving your personal information can be risky.

Persons conducting voter registration drives with 25 or more applications must be trained. The Code of Virginia requires individuals and groups obtaining 25 or more Virginia voter registration applicants to receive training provided by ELECT.  The Virginia Department of Elections (ELECT) is conducting in-person voter registration training sessions that are open to the public. Register for in-person training, to schedule training for your organization, or other questions related to training for voter registration drives, please make the call. Contact Garry Ellis at 804-864-8910 or by email at Garry.Ellis@Elections.Virginia.Gov
