WATCH: Fiery Protests Erupt In Milwaukee After Police-Involved Shooting
Police shot and killed a 23-year-old man after he reportedly ran away during a routine traffic stop.
Posted August 15, 2016
Fiery protests broke out Saturday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, after police shot and killed a man during a foot chase, according to NBC News.
The 23-year-old victim, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, reportedly fled a traffic stop on Milwaukee’s north side Saturday afternoon, writes the news outlet:
Milwaukee’s mayor said the man was struck twice — in the chest and the arm — and that he believes the officer involved had a body camera on at the time of the shooting.
Milwaukee Police Assistant Chief Bill Jessup told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel newspaper it wasn’t clear if the gun was pointed at the officer.

Reuters notes that the shooting took place in Sherman Park, a predominantly Black neighborhood in the city, where other news outlet report that about 100 people gathered overnight and burned a police car and several businesses, including a gas station:
In 2014, Dontre Hamilton, an unarmed black man was shot dead in a park by a Milwaukee police officer, an incident that sparked largely peaceful protests.
Sherman Park was the scene of some unrelated rioting a month ago. Coalition 4 Justice, which was formed after Hamilton was killed, called on supporters to clean up city streets and hold prayer vigils.
The races of the victim and the officer have not yet been released. Police claim the victim “had a lengthy arrest record and was carrying a stolen handgun loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition when police pulled over the vehicle for unspecified ‘suspicious activity,‘” writes Reuters.
The 24-year-old officer was placed on administrative duty following the incident. He has been with the police department for six years and an officer for three years, reports say.

66 of 6767 Black Men And Boys Killed By Police
UPDATED: 9:54 a.m. EDT, November 16, 2019 -- Police shooting and killing Black males is all but a centuries-old American tradition among law enforcement in the U.S. But the fact that this apparent rite of police passage was still thriving in 2019 and expected to continue well into 2020 and beyond should give any American citizen pause as more and more names of Black males continue to be added to a growing list of victims with what seems like a new shooting every week. READ MORE: Police Shootings And The Public Execution Of Black People Other victims' names include, but certainly, aren't limited to: Tamir Rice; Botham Shem Jean; E.J. Bradford; and Michael Brown. As NewsOne continues covering these shootings that so often go ignored by mainstream media, the below running list Black men and boys who have been shot and killed by police under suspicious circumstances can serve as a tragic reminder of the danger they face upon being born into a world of hate that branded them as suspects since birth.
