The Virginia Supreme Court ruled on July 22, 2016 to revoke the restoration of rights and voter registration eligibility from individuals with felony convictions. Today, August 22, 2016 Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that on August 15, that he approved the restoration of rights of nearly 13,000 people. Certain individuals cases remain under review. Individual restoration grant orders were printed with the Governor’s signature under the Seal of the Commonwealth and mailed on Friday, August 19, to those newly restored individuals. And, those individuals whose rights were restored on or after August 15 have been in the SOC’s database and communicated to the Department of Elections to remove those individuals from the prohibited voter list.
