Gospel singer Kim Burrell continues to face serious backlash a week after a video of her calling LGBT individuals “perverted” went viral. Most recently, BMI uninviting Burrell from attending its Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards ceremony on Jan. 14.

BMI’s Trailblazers of Gospel Music is an annual celebration of gospel music and its many talented songwriters. Given the controversy surrounding this year’s co-honoree Kim Burrell, we have asked her to not take part in the ceremony in order to allow the focus to remain on the songwriters and their music. BMI was founded over 76 years ago with an open door policy to welcome songwriters across all genres, and that same spirit of tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness continues today,” a rep from BMI said to HelloBeautiful in a written statement on Friday.

Apparently, Burrell was supposed to be honored at the ceremony along with gospel singer Marvin Sapp, Page Six noted.

This isn’t the first hit she’s taken since the hateful footage of her preaching was released last Friday.

As HelloBeautiful previously reported, her duet with Pharrell Williams on the Ellen show was cancelled, as was her radio show “Bridging the Gap.” Additionally, Black celebrities including Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer, Chaka Kahn and others blasted the 44-year-old for her intolerance and hateful rhetoric.

Burrell has yet to comment on this or any of the backlash she’s received all week.
