Keeping with the spirit of comedians hosting  award shows, the Dove Awards will be hosted this year by Sheri Shepherd.

She will host The Dove Awards and she says fans can expect “a hot night of Godly music and comedy” at Christian Music’s annual celebration of voices raised in faith.

Shepherd has often attributed her survival to her Faith.

If I didn’t have God I would have been dead. First of all, if I got into this entertainment industry without God. I would probably be on drugs. He put that desire in my heart when I was 4 years old. I loved to entertain myfamily . There was always that desire. I think he’s nurtured it. He’s opened doors. Why am I as successful as I am? I have no idea. I have no idea what I’m doing. Sometimes I look at God and go, “I think there’s somebody better to talk to these celebrities.” I really don’t know what I’m doing.

The comedian and actress is a Daytime Emmy winner for her work on “The View” and the host of “The Newlywed Game,” and has a recurring role on the sitcom “30 Rock.”

The 42nd annual Doves have been moved to Atlanta’s Fox Theatre this year from its traditional home of Nashville and will be taped on April 20 and aired on GMC on April 24, which is Easter Sunday. Nominations will be announced Feb. 16 in Atlanta.

Shepherd also recently announced her engagement to the co-host of ABC’s chat fest ‘The View’ returned from a holiday break to show off a ring finger featuring a 3-carat princess-cut diamond-and-platinum engagement ring from her new fiance, Los Angeles-based television writer Lamar Sally.  She was moved to discuss the spiritual nature of their engagement.
