Virginia Supreme Court Justice Leroy Roundtree Hassell, Sr. has died. Hassell was Virginia’s first black Supreme Court Justice, appointed by former Governor Timothy Kaine. He was 55 years old. State officials did confirm that Chief Justice Hassell had been ill for quite some time. They did not elaborate on the nature of his health problems.
