Praise Richmond Lupus Awareness
Source: General / Lupus Awareness Month

Radio One Richmond is helping bring more attention to lupus this May by joining forces with the Lupus Foundation of America for its “Put on Purple” awareness campaign. The initiative encourages people across the community to wear purple and stand in support of the millions of Americans living with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that can impact nearly every part of the body. Organizers say the goal is to make lupus more visible while also encouraging more conversations about the disease and the challenges many patients face daily.

Lupus remains one of the most difficult autoimmune diseases to diagnose because symptoms can vary widely from person to person. Many individuals experience years of unexplained pain, fatigue, inflammation, and other health complications before finally receiving answers. According to lupus advocates, it takes an average of six years for someone to receive a diagnosis after symptoms first begin appearing. Although there is currently no cure, awareness campaigns and research efforts continue working toward better treatments and earlier detection.

Throughout Lupus Awareness Month, supporters are encouraged to participate by donating, starting local fundraisers, sharing educational information online, and joining Team Radio One Goes Purple at the Richmond Walk later this year. The Lupus Foundation of America continues leading efforts nationwide through education, advocacy, research funding, and patient support programs designed to improve the lives of those affected by lupus.
