Dr. Martin Luther King, JR was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was gunned down as he stood on the balcony of his hotel room at the Lorraine Hotel.

A one mile stretch road in Memphis is named in Dr. King’s honor today.

While Dr. King felt his dream was a disaster because of growing violent protest in the black communities, he never gave up. He was spat on, arrested several times, beaten, stabbed and later assassinated for wanting all men to walk and stand equally in the United States of America.

Reverend Jessie Jackson was in Memphis staying at the same hotel during Dr. King’s death.  Rev. Jackson said one million people have been killed since the death of Dr. King. He said when whites kill blacks we want to revolt because it’s “Jail Time” and when blacks kill blacks it’s “Miller Time”. Rev. Jackson adds that a ‘hoodie up without a voter card is “hoodie winked”
