June 27, 2012, marks the 19th National HIV Testing Day, which recommends people of all ages to “Get Tested, Get Educated.” HIV testing is a critical step in taking control and responsibility over one’s health and lifestyle.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention esitimates that nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV in the United States of America, and almost 1 in 5 don’t know they are infected.
The Richmond City Health District is offering free-confidential HIV testing today, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fourth and Main Streets. Please help stop the spread of HIV and AIDS in our community.
Did you know: The African American population is disportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. Among Virginians living with HIV/AIDS, 62% are African American. Based on the number of cases reported in 2009, Richmond has the second highest rate of newly diagnosed cases of HIV in the state.
